There are also scripts for getting the likes of Nuke and After Effects to use Backburner as the render farm manager, so in a way it is kind of nice they have released them, as I’m sure some people will find them useful in the short term.

The software is unsupported and indeed I have heard a number of folks have found Composite to be super buggy (when I tried it on a Windows7 64bit machine it crashed on the splash screen), so proceed at own risk. Autodesk, who used to sell composite (aka Toxik) and Matchmover Pro separately, before bundling them in with their Max/Maya lines, has decided to release the 2014 versions of them as freeware on their app site (they have decided to stop developing these applications).
